Rudy Sanchez

Rudy Sanchez has been a member of the NLPOA Orange County Chapter for the past 28 years. Rudy retired an officer from the Santa Fe Railroad Police. Lou Espindola
NLPOA Maricopa, Arizona Chapter
2006 Lifetime Membership Recipient

In 1980, Lou Espindola was on of the original founders of the Brotherhood of Mexican American Police Officers of Phoenix, Arizona. Later, Lou along with the other members decided to become part of the National Latino Peace Officers Association. Being part of N.L.P.O.A. gave the Phoenix Latino Officer's “National Voice” which helped Lou resolve many disputes between Latino Officer's and police agencies. Unlike California, Arizona doesn't have police unions to represent their officer's, which makes N.L.P.O.A. a very important part of the Latino Community. Lou has served as a Chapter President, a State President, and as the National Vice President from 1998 -2000.

Inez William "Bill" Aguirre

William "Bill" Aguirre was chosen because of his commitment to this organization and to the mission, goals, and objectives of the NLPOA. Bill has exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills as a Founding Member of the Greater Kansas City Chapter. Bill has committed his personal time and personal resources as a local board member, as the Chapter President and as the NLPOA Missouri State President. Bill retired after 30 years as a police officer with the Kansas City Missouri Police Department.

Steve Fajardo

Steve Fajardo was chosen because of his commitment to this organization and to the mission, goals, and objectives of the NLPOA. Steve has exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills as a member of the NLPOA Alameda County Chapter, California and has been an NLPOA member for over 30 years. Steve has committed his personal time and personal resources as a local board member, a Chapter President, as the NLPOA California State President, and as the National NLPOA Parliamentarian. Steve retired after serving 30 years as a Law Enforcement Officer in the Oakland area. Department in the world and supervises more than 13,000 sworn and civilian personnel. He is an Adjunct Professor of Public Administration at the University of La Verne.

Dan Hernandez

Dan Hernandez: was selected to receive an NLPOA LIFETIME MEMBERSHIP because of his commitment to this organization and to the mission, goals, and objectives of the NLPOA. Dan has exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills as a Founding Member of the Greater Kansas City Chapter, as the chapter President, and as a National NLPOA Vice President 1995-1996.Dan Hernandez retired with from the Kansas City Missouri Police Department where he worked as a detective in vice and narcotics.

Jess has committed his personal time and personal resources as a local board member and as Chapter President. After 30 years as a deputy with the Kings County Sheriff's Department, California, Jess continues to "Keep his city safe.".

Joe A. Lopez, NLPOA Santa Clara County Chapter, California, has been a member since 1972. Joe is a Sergeant with the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department. Joe is Honored for his Commitment to the NLPOA. Joe lost his job in 1973 for helping start the NLPOA Santa Clara Chapter. Joe is the current National NLPOA Sergeant-At-Arms.

Rene is the Founder of the NLPOA Sonoma County Chapter, California. Rene is a retired investigator with the State of California. Rene’s commitment cannot be quantified in time and monies.

Lorenzo Provencio, NLPOA San Diego County Chapter, California, has been a member of the NLPOA since 1976. Lorenzo has been the NLPOA National Parliamentarian and a local NLPOA Board Member. Lorenzo is a school teacher in San Diego and he has guided the NLPOA with his courage and knowledge.

J. Louis Lopez is employed as a deputy with the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Department, Wisconsin. J. Louis Lopez served as Chapter President, as NLPOA Wisconsin State President, and as the National NLPOA Vice President for two terms. J. Louis Lopez also served as the National Officer of the Year Chair. J. Louis Lopez was selected to receive the 1999 NLPOA Lifetime Membership Award for his Commitment to Excellence and Excellent Leadership skills. J. Louis Lopez has exemplified excellent organizational skills and has “Bridged the Gap between Latinos and Law Enforcement.”

Gordon Clausen started working with the San Diego Police Department in 1963 and continued for more than 30 years. Gordon worked in all areas specifically as a narcotics detective. Gordon was a member of “La Placa Social” the original NLPOA chapter name. Gordon served in several chapter board positions and kept the chapter running with his personal finances and energy for more than 20 years. Gordon Clausen was selected to receive the 1998 NLPOA Lifetime Membership Award for his Commitment to Excellence. Gordon Clausen has exemplified excellent organizational skills and has “Bridged the Gap between Latinos and Law Enforcement.”
 

Barbara Ponze, Deputy Retired

1997 Lifetime Membership Recipient

Barbara was one of the first females to get hired with the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s Office, California in 1960’s. Barbara was selected to receive the 1997 NLPOA Law Enforcement Leadership Award for her Commitment to Excellence in Policing. Barbara Ponze joined the Santa Clara Sheriff’s Department on January 10, 1966. The Latino Peace Officers’ El Puente Newsletter was developed in 1975 by Barbara Ponze, Rosa Maria Hernandez, Vicente Calderon, and Fred Caballero. Barbara Ponze served as the National NLPOA Editor on several occasions. In 1987, Barbara Ponze was elected president of the NLPOA Santa Clara County Chapter. Barbara Ponze became the first female in the organization to head an N.L.P.O.A. Chapter. Barbara Ponze has exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills and has “Bridged the Gap between Latinos and Law Enforcement.”

Chief Louis Cobarruvias was selected to receive the 1997 NLPOA Law Enforcement Leadership Award. Chief Cobarruvias was selected for his Commitment to Excellence in Policing and for Outstanding Law Enforcement Leadership. In 1974, Chief Cobarruvias was one of the founding members of the NLPOA Santa Clara Chapter, California. Chief Cobarruvias exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills and has “Bridged the Gap Between Latinos an Law Enforcement.”

Chief Venegas was selected to receive the 1997 NLPOA Law Enforcement Leadership Award. Chief Venegas was selected for his Commitment to Excellence in Policing and for Outstanding Law Enforcement Leadership. In 1974, Chief Venegas was a founding member of the NLPOA Sacramento County Chapter, California, served on the chapter Board of Directors and on the NLPOA State of California Board. Chief Venegas has exemplified excellent organization and leadership skills and has “Bridged the Gap between Latinos and Law Enforcement.”
 

John Aleman

1997 NLPOA Lifetime Membership

On August 7, 1974, the Articles of Incorporation of the Latino Peace Officers’ Association of California were filed in the Office of the Secretary of State, March Fong Eu. This historical event, unprecedented in the history of any State or National Law Enforcement oriented organization, gave official recognition to a Hispanic Law Enforcement group, from all level. Five courageous Peace Officers, including John Aleman, an Oakland Police officer, signed their name to this historical document at the risk of eliciting negative comments from their fellow officers and their departments. Their unselfish and unrelenting commitment to the goals of recruitment, hiring, training, retention and promotion of qualified Hispanics into the field of law enforcement, has been an inspiration to other officers who have continued to work towards these goals. John is currently working for California Corrections Peace Officers Association.
