The Latina of the Year Award is given nationally to reward Latinas in our Community who serve as role models and have had a positive influence on the law enforcement profession. The honorees give of themselves to promote a positive image of law enforcement and the communities we serve.
The National Latino Peace Officers Association-San Diego Metro Chapter is proud to introduce Adriana Alcaraz as the Latina of the Year for 2001.
Aldriana Alcaraz is a general assignment reporter for KFMB Channel 8 here in San Diego. Ms. Alcaraz serves a role model for our community. Her balanced approach to television reporting has benefited the Law Enforcement community as well as the Community at large.
Adrian was one of the first reporters in San Diego to showcase the Bi-national cooperation that exists on law enforcement training between San Diego and Mexico's law enforcement community. She was also one of the first to do a story on the National Latino peace Offices Association "Used of Force" community workshops. Her stories have provided the community with an insight into the difficult split second decisions law enforcements officers make on a daily basis.
Adriana has helped to spotlight the work of the National Latino Peace Officers and San Diego Police Department's Partnership to help orphans from Mexico enjoy Christmas. Through her stories the san Diego Community has received a glimpse of the positive impact the National Latino Peace Offices Association has had on the San Diego and international Community. Most recently Mr. Alcaraz served as mistress of ceremony at the Bi-national Public Safety Conference in San Diego.
Mr. Alcaraz also volunteers in local schools. She regularly speaks to Latino students about careers in the media and the importance of education. She uses her bilingual skills at elementary schools to communicate with students whose primary language is Spanish.
